As a speaker, Darci’s presentation takes a “my life is my message” approach, pulling from early years of trauma to owning multiple successful businesses. Rik Ocvirk is a seasoned hospitality executive with more than two decades of leadership experience across restaurant operations, destination management, and large-scale event programming in Canada. He is currently Vice President at The Distillery Restaurants Corp. and plays a key leadership role within the Distillery Historic District, one of Canada’s most iconic cultural and culinary destinations.
Throughout his career, Rik has built, scaled, and led high-performing teams responsible for complex, high-volume food and beverage operations, premium guest experiences, and nationally recognized events. His portfolio includes oversight of restaurants, catering, festivals, and immersive public programming, contributing to the Distillery District’s reputation as a world-class arts, entertainment, and tourism destination.
Previously, Rik served as Director of Restaurants & Catering at Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE), where he managed hospitality operations for major professional sports and entertainment venues. Earlier in his career, he held senior leadership positions with globally recognized hospitality brands including Planet Hollywood, Indian Motorcycle Café, and several acclaimed Toronto restaurants, gaining deep operational and financial expertise across diverse service models.
Rik holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from McMaster University and has pursued advanced professional certification in wine and beverage education through the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) and sommelier-focused programs. His leadership approach blends commercial performance with creativity, placemaking, and a deep appreciation for food, drink, and community-driven experiences.
Known for his collaborative leadership style and hands-on operational insight, Rik continues to shape some of the most successful hospitality destinations and events in the country while mentoring teams and contributing to industry organizations across Ontario.
